A phenomenological study on the experiences of mental health social workers¡¯ suicide intervention service provision


Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the experiences of suicide crisis intervention in mental health welfare center. conducted in - depth interviews with eight practitioners who had experienced suicide crisis interventions for more than 2 years. The collected data were analyzed by phenomenological methods. As a result of the study, three topic groups and 10 subcategories were derived. The three themes are ¡®thrown into the confusion of suicide¡¯, which represents the experience of entry into the suicide crisis intervention, ¡®surviving on your own¡¯, which represents the essence of the work process experience, ¡®Reflection and maturedness about life and death¡¯, which represents the change of perception and the experience of maturity through the suicide crisis intervention process. Based on the results of this study, we suggest the necessity of supplementing the policy of mental health social worker¡¯s exhaustion mitigation measures, strengthening education and training, and expanding the public authority of the mental health welfare center and strengthening institutional basis of suicide prevention project.
